North Carolina Ducks Unlimited Band the Billfish Tournament
July 31 - August 2, 2008
The 20th annual North Carolina Ducks Unlimited “Band the Billfish” offshore fishing tournament will take place July 31st through August 2nd, 2008 in Morehead City, NC. It is a pleasure to be the tournament chairman again this year. We are really excited as this is the 20th anniversary of the tournament and we expect good things from it!
The two main goals are: First, to have a fantastic time fishing and socializing with friends and other dedicated DU members and, second, to raise additional funds for the DU North Carolina SOUND CARE initiative that concentrates on NC Wetlands. The SOUND CARE goal is to protect, restore, and enhance 64,000 acres in North Carolina and the northern breeding grounds. This is a tall order and I need your help. In the past 19 years, this tournament has raised over $950,000.00 for sounds, marshes, and estuaries in our state. We hope to exceed the one million dollar mark with this year’s tournament and need your help in doing so. We hope you would like to be a part of such a major event for the Ducks.
This year’s state NCDU pin has been designed to celebrate the 20th Anniversary “Band the Billfish” tournament. We are proud of its design as it will be used to represent our state at the National Convention this year and give the tournament more exposure. We hope to have additional pins available to sell at your DU events. You can see the artwork for the pins at our website, http://www.bandthebillfish.com/.
We continue to try to gain additional national and local sponsors who would like to market their products and services to our participants and volunteers. Sponsors who understand the demographics of a typical DU member PLUS the demographics of the offshore angler and offshore sport fishing boat owner are needed and this is explained in our sponsor package. The sponsor package can be obtained by contacting me or other committee members listed below.
Our committee remains as strong as it was at the inception 20 years ago. Many members are ex-chairmen of the tournament. We have volunteers from all over the state who know how to put on a great DU event and their help is a necessary part of the success of the tournament. We need these guys and more like them to give more support. We always need new members on our fundraising team for sources of revenue outside the realm of our actual events. If you have never served on our committee or attended our event, you have missed a really refreshing, FUN, and different DU volunteer opportunity!
